hundreds of volunteers getting ready to fan out in clear lake looking for 9-year-old mikaela lynch. christie smith joins us from san francisco. you have new details about the search? >> reporter: good morning. we are told that search should pick up some time around 7:00 this morning. today, more than 100 volunteers and police officers helping to find mikaela lynch. they may widen their search area trying to find her. mikaela is nine years old and has autism. family members told police the little girl has the mental capacity of a 1-year-old and cannot speak. she disappeared sunday afternoon while playing in the family's highland harbor vacation area. she had been playing with her brother in the yard and may have wondered off. volunteers and police have searched. they posted fliers all around. they have specifically looked along cash creek. police say she doesn't know how

to swim well. the house they were staying in does back up to cash creek. officials have requested that the release of the water from the dam be stopped to try and reduce water flow. divers so far have not found anything. neighboring police jurisdictions from several counties today also helping to try and find her. reporting live in san francisco, christie smith, "today in the bay." let's hope she is okay. thank you very much. in the meantime, in calaversa county, the father of a young girl stabbed to death in the home, no longer going to speak to the media as planned. leila fowler's 12-year-old brother is accused of killing her and making up an story about an intruder. their father, barney fowler, tells the "associated press," he believes his son is innocent until he sees evidence that proves otherwise. >> firefighters on the scene of an overnight fire at a day spa in san jose. san jose fire tweeting out these

pictures of that fire early this morning. the flames there breaking out of the building just off deanza near highway 85. this happened around 2:00 this morning. firefighters say the roof collapsed and that building, a total loss. so far, no reports of any injuries. the cause of this fire remains under investigation. >>. >> new video this morning. in san jose, four people suffered minor injuries. it happened at the intersection of 11th and empire streets around 6:00 last night. a vta spokesperson says the pickup ran a red light, hit the bus, which ran into the house. the house had minor damage. >> the future of america's cup yacht race is uncertain as race organizers prepare for a meeting today in san francisco. at that meeting, organizers will review the death of andrew simpson, a member of the "artemis" racing team. he died after his team's 72-foot

at the toll plaza, all the folks getting in the cash lanes, you see them lined up. they have to move over out of the lanes approaching the big rig. also, those cash lanes are slow heading back to the scene. we lose a few of the cash lanes off to the far right on the approach coming out of hayward. that makes things even further backed up. only the hov lane is the one you see)v> moving. only the fast lanes are backed up as you are coming out of hayward. you see how far the chopper is showing you all the way back. use the dumbarton bridge if you can. we will show you the maps. 880, fine, the transition is okay. once you reach industrial, you are hitting the brakes and climbing on them as you approach the toll plaza. if you can use 84, the dumbarton bridge to the south, go for it. a little increase off of the transition off of south 880. that will be the case headed into newark and fremont this mork. be prepared for that. the sig alert, no eto. we don't know when they are going to open the lanes.

this is a big issue crossing the bay from the east bay to the peninsula. the south bay, we see the build for 101 at the top. 87 coming into down down. those kicked off early this morning. they are holding pretty steady. we are expecting that volume to boost up over the next half hour. watch the south bay and the bay bridge, we, of course, have the backup at the toll plaza as the metering lights are on. the eastshore freeway, upper 50s and lower 60s coming through berkeley. low clouds may be an issue in sfots. thank you very much. new details on a deadly shooting in the berkeley hills just above that cal campus. police now believe 21-year-old alberto santana silva was shot after trying to break up an argument. this happened on grizzly peak boulevard near the lawrence hall of science. it happened about 5:30 sunday morning. police say the fremont man was with some friends when a dispute erupted nearby. silva intervened. even though he didn't know those after the fight, a man left the

scene and returned 20 minutes later and shot silva multiple times as he sat in the car. silva sadly died at the scene. >> 6:07. a former math teacher facing federal charges accused of repet edly molesting a gilroy teenager. 50-year-old robert william lincoln met the girl at rancho middle school when she was a student in his class. he befriended the girl and her family and began a sexual relationship with her in 2011 when she was 15. he was arrested in gilroy after the girl's mother reported the relationship to police. the time is 6:08. coming up, a diplomate or secret sfi spy on a mission. the new claim by russia. sharing her story. why angelina jolie says she decided to have a double mastectomy even though she has not been diagnosed with a disease.

lanes. we will show you the backup from the east bay to the peninsula coming up. a check on the day's top stories at 6:11. the police right now trying to make some things happen. divers will be out in clear lake this morning searching for 9-year-old mikaela lynch of san francisco. she disappeared from her family's vacation home on sunday. russian security services say they have detained a u.s. diplomate they claim is a cia agent. russian authorities accuse ryan fogle of trying to recruit a member of the russian special services. members of congress demanding some answers from the irs after reports surface scl claiming the agency singled out tea party groups for extra scrutiny. this morning, germany wants google to stop predicting what we are going to search. >> google calls this one auto complete. germany not happy with it.

>> no, not when the auto complete is insulting. if you are not familiar with this idea of auto complete. it is a feature in google where you type part of a search, let's say mike ino. it tries to finish on past searches. it says, people are interested in mike inouye's nail polish. why does he have a blue fingernail? the answer is, just because. some auto completes could be defamatory. you put in somebody's name and it offers their name in criminal records, for instance. germany says google has to turn it off if people request it. other news are the international energy news says the fastest growing petroleum producer in the world is us, the united states, overtaking saudi arabia and other opec countries, in growth. we could outpump them by 2020. the iea says the gains are thanks to fracking and at&t says

it has not decided whether to discontinue sales of the htc first, the so-called facebook phone. sales apparently have been less than stellar. you may recall, jon and laura, at&t dropped the price of the first from $99 to 99 cents with contract. now, this is not to be confused with the htc-1, which came out, a totally different phone, came out at the same time. i'm not marketing expert but they have one called the first and one called the 1 at the same time. >> not real clear. >> scott, thanks for helping us, i think, clear it up. this morning, a public figure making it very clear about a very personal choice oscar winning actress, angelina jolie announcing to the world she underwent a double mastectomy to prevent breast cancer. a look at why she is choosing to

share her story with the world. good morning. she actually turned to today's "new york times" as today's op-ed titled my medical choice. she starts by talking about her own mother who she lost to cancer in 2007. her mother was just 56 years old. she also writes about her six children and says, quote, they have asked if the same could happen to me. the 37-year-old reveals once she learned she has aegean that significantly increases her risk of breast cancer, she decided a preventative double mastectomy was the best choice for her. listen to this. before the procedure, she had an 87% chance of developing breast cancer. after it, less than 5%. in the op-ed, she talks about losing her breast and writes, quote, i do not feel any less of a woman. i feel empowered that i made a strong choice that in no way diminishes my femininity. it is clear she wants women to feelh#m encouraged by her story. >> for anyone who has experienced cancer in their life

and clearly she has the experience of her mother having cancer and having lost that cancer and then being a mother herself and having had that risk articulated to her, there is the emotional toll of what she has been through in the past and wanting to prevent and ensure that she doesn't allow her children to experience the loss of a mother at a young age. >> that gene that puts her at greater risk is called brca-1. it gives her a higher risk of owe v ovarian cancer. she did have reconstructive breast surgery. we may or may not notice a difference the next time we see her on the red carpet. she is hoping this article will save a life. coming up in my next report, if your curious about testing for that specific gene. we will tell you how much it costs. even jolie talks about the

low clouds all the way inland. 53, liver mormore, 53, san jose. as we head through the next couple of days, a series, a weak disturbance, not transporting any rain, transporting plenty of cool ocean air. that means we will see fog and drizzle. thick, low clouds. the natural a.c. is going to keep temps in the 70s starting tomorrow lasting all the way through friday. we are talking about the low 70s. a return to falllike weather very quickly. 85 degrees today. not so much the case in livermore. 87, fairfield. 86, concord. 84 in santa treresa. getting into the upcoming weekend, just as quickly as we dropped you off, we are going to warm you back up. i'm watching these live pictures. doesn't seem like they are making very quick progress out there this morning. >> you are absolutely right. let me explain what's going on. here is the big deal.

you see all of this. we have to wait. we have a tow truck that has arrived. they may detach this rig from the trailer itself. that big rig tow truck is not enough to pull this entire load, 80,000 pounds of t there is some sort of leak, fuel or oil. i don't know if they have to have a special crew to do that as well. we do have this one lane closed. there are percussions at the toll plaza. right that we sometimes see on the approach, there are those cash lanes, all of those cash lanes, those four, are closed. these two funnel over after the toll plaza. that's the reason for all this backup. these folks wanted to use that section over there. they can't. there is the backup from hayward to industrial to the toll plaza. solid orange and red back to the scene. building stored 880, slow, because the volume building through hayward heading down through the area. expect major slowing, because we still don't know when the lanes are going to clear.

we are looking at a slower drive right now as some folks hit the road just in general for their commute. i would suggest 84 across the bay if you can use that, if you are south of the san mateo bridge, because that is a big log jam overapproaching the toll plaza. heading over, it is okay. 84 through livermore, your standard slowing lieu the tri-valley. 580, not a major concern. pretty light for the traffic. meanwhile, down in the south bay, we are seeing the build in the northbound direction. nothing major yet. we saw early slowing. it looks like it has calmed down quite a bit. along the peninsula, 101 shows a nice, smooth drive as well. some folks can't get over here because of the san mateo bridge. the holdup right there. making things easier north of palo alto in through san mateo. the bay bridge toll plaza, we have the backup here.

>> the search for victims is now over at the site of a massive building collapse in bangladesh. more than 1100 bodies have been found in the rubble. one woman found alive at the crash site is recovering and just left the hospital on monday. the buildings owner and eight others are in police custody. a woman lucky to be alive after a tree falls right in her bedroom pinning her to her bed. she was able to call 911 yesterday despite being pinned by the tree. firefighters took her to the hospital suffering minor injuries. vermont is about to become the next state to allow doctors to help terminate ill patients

to die. it wouldedicion to terminally ill patients that want to die. similar laws exist in oregon, minnesota becoming the 12th state to legalize gay marriage. governor mark dayton scheduled to sign the bill into law on the steps of the capital sometime this afternoon. late yesterday, the minnesota senate voting 37-30, to make gay marriage legal in their state. weddings between same-sex couples will begin in minnesota august 1st. a three-man crew that spent five months on the international space station back on earth. thomas washburn, canadian, chris hash field and roman romanenko, the first professional astronaut to live aboard a space station. >> as a kid, i dreamed of that. it kind of slipped away. i'm busy doing this. christina loren, here, busy with the weather.

temperatures are looking good out there. for today, it is going to be warm. make sure you are ready for that inland. 85 degrees. bayside, perfect. 75 at the coast. a little bit chilly for the first part of the day. by noon, 65 degrees in places like san francisco. we have a major cooldown headed our way. temperatures tumble 10-20 degrees in some cases. i will take you through those changes coming up. time it out for where you live. first, you might want to give yourself extra time this morning if you can. mike is here to help you out. >> avoid the san mateo bridge if you can. we are looking at a smooth drive across the span. our chopper has been tracking this disabled big rig on the toll plaza side. in oakland, a new issue southbound 880 as you are coming towards the coliseum. take a look here. it looks okay at the high street high rise. approaching the coliseum, a stalled big rig there. slowing as you are heading down towards 66 from downtown oakland. we are tracking a couple of spots in the east bay.

2013, the dow, the nasdaq, all feeling good vibrations. we will tell you more of what's going to happen today as we continue. 6:30. i'm jon kelley. >> i'm laura garcia cannon. today, an america's cup say who are will be laid to rest. 32-year-old andrew simpson died in the waters of the bay after his team's yacht cap ized and crumbled during a practice run for the america's cup race. this morning, the future of the race is still in question. bob redell joins us live in san francisco. an america's cup meeting is set for today. do you think a decision could be reached by the day's end? >> reporter: hard to say. we do know the head of the america's cup did say over the weekend they do expect the competition to go on as planned over on the bay over the summer. the question is, what, if any,

changes4 as how do they proceed after andrew bart simpson, the sailor with "artemis" racing. they will meet with them and review plans to figure out how to proceed. officials are expected to announce a panel of experts to review thursday's accidents. one team is not waiting for those results. yesterday, a german team competing in the youth regatta, which would run parallel to the america's cup, announced it is ul ping out of the competition for the youth. it won't compete because of safety concerns they have after what happened thursday. yesterday, we spoke with the american youth sailing force. they are a team that's decided to stay in the youth regatta that would have been competing against the german team. a team that's very aware of how risky it can be to sail in the

bay. just last week, they capsized their 45-foot catamaran. in spite of that, they think the youth regatta must go on. >> the whole reason we are here sailing the boats is because we push ourselves. we want to go 5ñfaster. we want to see what the next level is. that's what's gotten us here. >> the red bull youth america's cup is for sailors in the age range of 19-24 years of age. the race organizers do tell the san francisco chronicle that that german youth team could be replaced if need be to bring the field for the youth regatta back up. reporting live, bob redell, "today in the bay." an emergency meeting is scheduled to talk about the houses sinking right into the ground in northern california, about two dozen homes being swallowed up by the soil in lakeport. that's located about 100 miles north of san francisco. a total of seven home vs. been red tagged signaling severe

problems. several other homeowners have left their homes. they found two small leaks in the area. at this point, they are not sure if those leaks which have been repaired are responsible for this big-time slide. 6:33, the drakes bay oyster company ordered the 80-year-old farm to close. they will hear arguments this morning about whether to allow the farm to stay open while appeals are heard. if not, they will have to remove the oysters from the bay which will remove the business. the case goes back to federal court in oakland. 6:33. let's get back to christina loren talking about your tuesday forecast. good morning to you, laura and john. good morning to you at home. we have a good-looking day shaping up. the differences we are getting in the east bay.

oakland, full deck of low clouds. let's take you to sunol. tri-valley is nice and cleared. we have a good-looking day shaping up. temperatures are going to be warm just like yesterday. we are going to progressively cool you off as we head deeper into the week. temperatures requiring a jacket at 46 degrees. you can probably get away without one. 55 for concord and 53 to start the day right here in beautiful san jose. at 9:00 a.m., the only cloud cover that will be left over will be hugging the immediate coastline. at noon, all that cloud cover clears out and we are going to warm you up. as a result. temperatures are going to be in the mid-80s, unseasonably warm. around 69 degrees and we continue to cool you off as we head into the week. i have your full forecast coming up in a few moments. mike has a traffic alert. i am watching all those guys. there are many trying to get this thing cleaned up. >> this may look like chopper doesn't know what they are pointing at. they do. a wide shot on the left of your screen just coming into the

prime minister, david cameron, is in boston visiting the site of the boston marathon bombings. he offered his condolences to governor duvall patrick and discussed lessons that could be learned from the tragedy. he will travel to new york where he and prince harry will meet american business leaders speaking of prince harry, before meeting with the prime minister, prince harry heading to the new jersey shore today to visit two towns hit very hard by superstorm sandy. you can still see the damage there. new jersey governor, chris christie, will guide the prince through the heavily damaged neighborhoods and the prince will also see a roller-coaster there now sitting right out in the ocean because of that storm. the roller coaster will eventually be taken apart after the prince visits. lawyers for kobe bryant's lawyers will square off against the basketball star's family today. that's a lot of lawyers. they want to block an auction that includes some of his gear, jerseys and high school mementos. his mother says her son gave her

we are told it is an expanded search. 100 volunteers and police officers fanned out looking for mikaela lynch. each hour,it is growing more and more urgent. she has autism and her family tells us she has the capacity of a 1-year-old baby. they called the police to say that mikaela disappeared from the family's vacation home about 2 1/2 hours north of san francisco. she was apparently playing in the yard with her brother and then wondered off. police say she does like water. the vacation home backs up to a waterway. she doesn't know how to swim. there are fliers up in the area this morning. dogs have searched for her. divers too. police believe she may not have any clothes or shoes on because she often removes them when she

gets hot. clothing was found in the yard where she was playing. that search has covered the cash creek area and at least ten square miles of land expected to get even wider as it resumes today. reporting live in san francisco, kr christie smith, "today in the bay." 6:46. a quick-thinking 7-year-old now safe after escaping from her kidnapper's car trunk. this is a sketch of the stranger who apparently pulled up to the girl and grabbed her while she was on a walk with her mother and two siblings. the man drove only a few blocks away when the girl jumped out of the trunk while the car was moving. she ran over to a couple that happened to be nearby and told them what happened. >> she ran right to my husband and she says, he stole me, he stole me. she said she was hid in the trunk. when he put her in, he grabbed her, threw her in the trunk and he sped down here. she opened the trunk. >> other than a few scrapes, the girl is okay.

the extreme south or east bay. 53 in livermore. this area of low pressure starts to move into the bay area along with the jetstream taking a dip to the south. several weak disturbances are going to come through the bay area keeping the onshore flow in effect. fog and drizzle on its way. we are going to keep the natural a.c. going as we head into the end of the week. temperatures today, warm, 85 degrees in places like livermore. getting into the next couple days. we take those numbers down to the low 70s. a significant dropoff by 20 degrees in some cases. you will notice that difference. we are going to stay cool for a couple of days. we will heat you right back up just in time for the upcoming weekend. not this monday but the following monday is memorial day. looking 15 days out, you will be able to make those outdoor plans. >> i am going to change it up on the control room. can i take the chopper shot really quickly? we just had the big rig itself

medical choice. she is just like all of us. she explains her decision to get a double mastectomy. this gene is called brca-1. the gene gives her an 87% risk of breast cancer. now that she has undergone the surgery, medical experts say that percentage has dropped remarkably. >> many don't take this step until they get breast cancer. this is a very aggressive step she is taking. it may reduce her chances of ever getting breast cancer significantly close to 5% or even zero. also quite telling, jolie starts the article talking about her own mother who died of cancer at just 56 years old. she also talks about having six kids of her own with her beau, brad pitt. both factors playing into her decision to get this double
